Arriving at Barley Mill bothy, I am immediately welcomed by peace and tranquillity.

I unload my minimal items for the stay, change into my running gear, and set off to recci the area. I have no idea where I am heading, I let my feet and curiosity lead the way. Small windy roads, footpaths, bridal ways, then I reach Stithians lake and greeted by sunshine.

Forks in the path, I choose direction without thought, I just run and explore. I stumble on a secret watering hole, (well I like to think it’s a secret) then get lost in the thick overgrown narrow footpaths that lead to more sounds of birds and picturesque green stretching for miles.

On my return I brave the cold shower, it’s invigorating.

Barley mill bothy has everything you need for that disconnection and reconnection break. I cook dinner on the electric hob, I pour wine into a tumbler, I wrap myself in blankets while sitting outside after dinner listening to the pheasants and wildlife surrounding me.

Toilet with a view, foldable camp beds, fire pit, log burner, peaceful surroundings and views that will take your imagination on special journeys.

I feel blessed to have this opportunity to be here today, and plan a Waite escape from this very location.

My mind is brimming with ideas, my tummy happy from the meal full of goodness, my bed made up ready for me to lay when sleep welcomes me and excited about dawn in such a magical setting.
